Troy Planning + Design has been commissioned by the Isle of Wight Council to prepare the first Infrastructure Delivery Plan for the Island.
The study assessed the infrastructure requirements associated with new growth across the Island for the period to 2036, supporting production of the new Local Plan – ‘The Island Planning Strategy’. It considers the full range of physical, social and green infrastructure required, when this should be delivered, and the costs and funding arrangements associated with this.
The unique Island context brings a particular set of infrastructure challenges, not least the inter-related issue of connection and separation with the mainland, the highly seasonal employment sector, and the demand placed on social infrastructure as a result of an ageing population.
The infrastructure needs have been informed through engagement with service providers, the development industry and Parish Councils. Requirements have been mapped and linked to an interactive GIS, allowing the IDP to be monitored and updated overtime, but also to assist with its use by a wider audience.
