Overview

Troy Planning + Design is providing a critical friend role to Southend-on-Sea Borough Council on their Urban Living (Capacity) Study.

The study will investigate the potential for accommodating new residential development within the urban area of the Borough and will form part of the evidence base for the emerging Local Plan. The challenge to accommodate growth is exacerbated by the extent of the Borough boundary, which is drawn tightly around the urban area, and where the presence of the Green Belt and the Thames Estuary, represent constraints to urban expansion.

Production of the Urban Living Study represents a proactive approach by the Borough to explore and identify housing development opportunities in the urban area.

These opportunities will seek to optimise development potential through a design-led approach to capacity that responds to character, and relates to proximity to services and sustainable transport choices.

Troy Planning + Design will be working closely with the Borough throughout the study, providing advice and input at all stages, as well as preparing a set of design case studies for representative sites identified through the work.
